Jennifer states, “This is a very exciting time. Our business has enjoyed a high street presence on Common Garden Street in Lancaster for the last six years which has been really enjoyable, but this is an opportunity to

move things forward and innovate again. Whilst we still continue our retail business from the new bridal rooms on a smaller scale, our business will be focused on individually made couture gowns, strongly driven by design

and manufacture. Our reputation has built up for the last fourteen years, and we can take all our expertise to our new location.

Story’s is a perfect location for our business, as well as moving the retail operation, we can design and manufacture gowns on site, promoting the UK fashion and manufacture industry. We shall also be holding fashion shows and events in the in house auditorium, but also use the facilities to teach fashion design and garment construction which will be fantastic.

Jennifer Pritchard Bridal Design has announced that the company is relocating premises to new state-of-the-art luxury bridal rooms and design studios at the Storey Creative Industry Centre, Meeting House Lane, Lancaster.

The move is part of the company’s strategy to focus on providing individually made couture gowns, a new manufactured bridal fashion label, made to measure day and evening wear, as well as being a dynamic hub for design seminars and fashion shows.

Owner Jennifer Pritchard said: “This is a very exciting time. Our business has enjoyed a high street presence on Common Street in Lancaster for the last six years. However, the new premises will provide the company with greater scope to innovate and implement new design ideas, whilst maintaining a high level of personal service.

“Storey’s is a perfect location for our business. Whilst we will continue our retail business on a smaller scale, we will be concentrating on offering a bespoke individual bridal design service, strongly driven by the Jennifer Pritchard reputation for excellence and imagination built up during the last 14 years. In addition, we will also have the facilities and space to design and manufacture a new label, which will be stocked at selective UK wedding boutiques.”

Jennifer’s dynamic business strategy will see her new premises hosting a number of fashion shows and events in the in-house auditorium, as well as being used to teach fashion design and garment construction.

The company move will take place at the end of March, although the retail shop on Common Garden Street will continue to operate as normal and take retail orders until the relocation.

Comedian Dave Gorman rode into town (literally) yesterday to entertain Lancaster Morecambe Etc. and 450 odd other punters at Lancaster's Grand. Cycling between venues, Dave spent an epic two and a half hours regaling tales of posted keys, book tours and the evolution of the honey monster! I can't say much more as he promised us not too! Lancaster was day 17 and after 880 miles in the saddle, he was looking surprisingly chipper. Vintage Bag Making Workshop with Priscilla Jones

Priscilla Jones on one half of the Edge Gallery and a very talented designer. She makes beautiful contemporary stitched textiles in 2D and 3D, which are exhibited and sold throughout the UK. Historical textiles and fashion provide her inspiration and she explores these themes through fabric, wire, paint, thread, wax and stitch.

This autumn Priscilla will be running a workshop on bag making. Materials will be provided but you’re welcome to bring along your own remnants to make a truly personal and nostalgic piece. Linen table cloths and runners provide good backgrounds to work on. Priscilla will take you through the possibilities of designing and creating your idea using free machine embroidery, appliqué and bonding techniques. Please bring your own sewing machine with free-machine facility if you have one.

Etc Guides were having an arty evening on Friday. We started at the launch of the snapshot museum's fine Decisive Moments installation, at Morecambe's Winter Gardens. And what a setting, in the midst of a marvelous victorian theatre stands the brilliant white temporary gallery showcasing local residents summertime snaps from yesteryear alongside audio from the photographers. Sirens - An Exhibition by Kate Webster at the Edge Gallery, Lancaster

The Edge Gallery, Lancaster has a new exhibition, and etc guides were at the private view which was pleasingly busy with Lancaster's arty crowd enjoying the pleasant evening, drinking wine and hopefully buying some of the fantastic art on display.

The exhibition by Kate Webster, pays homage to some of the glamorous female icons of 'The Dream Machine', the golden age of Hollywood.

Kate's paintings, executed in black and white, portray the crisply evocative images of the thirties, forties and fifties. Each image stares out from its own imprisoning canvas, isolated in a static timeless nostalgia. Her subjects are pictured as a series of 'stills'. Faithful to an era in which cinematic special effects were still unknown, and which the main source of light was placed high up in front of the subject, her idealised portraits display faces in which the shadows of the skin texture are smoothed away, and facial contours are exaggerated. This gives them the dual quality of being Sirens, both goddess like and ghostly.

I like to think of the Lancaster and Morecambe district as a very special place, small enough not to get lost in and big enough not to feel hemmed in. When I moved here in late 1998 from Peterborough, I know it won me over very quickly. I love the city, and it's vistas, and the views over Morecambe Bay, I love promenading at Morecambe seafront, I love that I can see the Midland Hotel from my bathroom window in Freehold!, I love being only minutes away from the Forest of Bowland, the Silverdale and Arnside areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the South Lakes, and I love the creative and entrepreneurial spirit which imbues the streets, the culture, the inhabitants and the shops. Last week a new guide (Lancaster. Morecambe. Etc.) was launched which exactly captures this feeling, and I thought I'd share it with you. Solely dedicated to The Snapshot; it houses an extensive archive of People's Photography from the last 100 years. The show is the product of an extensive arts collaboration with senior communities in the North West Region. Displayed inside a pop-up gallery within Morecambe’s Winter Gardens Theatre, the exhibition makes full use of this dramatic and once grandiose setting. Presented with sound pieces from the participants. Sometimes contextualising the image, other times playfully mystifying the viewer.

The Golden Lion

Lancaster Castle

Steeped in almost 1000 years of history, the Castle is built in the oldest part of town on a commanding hill top location. Grade I listed with some parts awarded Scheduled Ancient Monument status, it is still a working Crown Court and prison today. The history of the castle is tied up with stories of royalty, power, criminals, dungeons, death, treason, transportation and witchcraft - The famous Pendle witches were tried here. Tunnel down to the ancient dungeons and experience what it’s like to be locked up in stark medieval conditions!

The Gregson Centre

Designed by the renowned architects Austin and Paley, the Gregson was completed in 1894 in memory of local benefactor and MP, Samuel Gregson.

Today the centre, a brightly coloured mix of spaces, hosts a myriad of functions serving the local community from public performances and meetings to private clubs and events such as a venue for the Lancaster Jazz festival.

Funded and run as a commercial business, if you become a paid-up member, you can also enjoy free movie nights in the Gregson’s own private cinema!

The Grand Theatre

One of the oldest working provincial theatres in the country, the Grand has seen many changes since its opening in 1782. Extensively refurbished, with funds raised from productions by its own Lancaster Footlights Club, the Grand is in probably the best condition it has been since the rebuild of 1908. Today, it successfully operates as a venue for amateur drama, music and dance as well as attracting stars such as Eddie Izzard, Jack Dee and Dave Gorman. Regular performer Elkie Brooks describes it as “a jewel in Lancaster’s crown”.

During September, look out for the ‘unlocked’ series of tours, where visitors can take a free tour behind the scenes, looking out across the theatre from the backstage areas. You may even encounter Sarah Siddons, the theatre’s resident ghost! The Grand also has a large selection of period, pantomime and modern costumes available for hire, perfect for any fancy dress party!
